Poker Playing Cops too busy at Home Game to investigate Burglary
Poker playing police officers at Thames Valley Police HQ in the UK were just settling down to their regular Texas Holdem game at their social club when local householder, Graham Hall, decided to report a burglary at his home.
Hall was turned away from the police station by an on duty security guard at the front desk. He was told to call the non-emergency telephone number given to him on a fridge magnet!
Mr Hall suffered the burglary at a rental property he owns nearby to the police station. After making a call to the non-emergency he was promised officers would investigate as soon as possible. A week later he is still waiting for hear from the Thames Valley Card Sharks.
Mr Hall said; “A security guard popped up from behind the desk and said: ‘Good evening. Are you here for the poker?’
“I said: ‘I thought this was a police station, not a casino.’
“I told him I’d come to report a crime, but he said I couldn’t do it there. I was flabbergasted – you can’t even report a crime at the police headquarters.”
A spokeswoman for Thames Valley police said yesterday: “The security guard assumed Mr Hall was a member of staff there for the game.
“When it became evident he was not, he explained that we could not take details and directed him to the non-emergency number.”
She said that the matter was not dealt with urgently because it was classed as a “non-dwelling burglary”.
A spokesman for the local licensing authority, Cherwell District Council, said gambling was legally permitted at the headquarters social club.

Durrrr Challenge Update: Dwan establishes big lead over Antonius
Session 4 from the Tom Dwan vs Patrik Antonius ‘Durrrr Challenge’ ended yesterday with Dwan establishing a healthy profit and a big lead over Antonius.
Dwan was in sparkling form and simply out-played Antonius over the entire session, which ended just shy of the 4000 hand mark for this particular challenge. When the dust settled Dwan was $206,000 ahead for the session which leaves him almost $150,000 ahead for the challenge over all.
The early exchanges have certainly gone Dwan’s way but Antonius will be quick to point out that less than 10% of the challenge is complete. So, it’s a little early to be making any confident predictions at this stage but things are certainly looking very sweet at Camp Dwan.
