Bob Stupak Dies
Las Vegas impresario Bob Stupak has died, aged 67, following his battle with leukemia. Stupak featured on several poker TV shows and has several poker honours to his name, but he is more famously known for his influence on the Las Vegas skyline following the launch of “Bob Stupak’s Vegas World” in the early 1970s.
Stupak was also known for his crazy prop bets and, in 1989, he was said to have placed a $1 million bet on the Superbowl and won. In the same year he picked up a WSOP bracelet by winning the Deuce to Seven Lowball tournament.
In 1995 Stupak suffered terrible facial injuries in a motorbike crash, reportedly breaking every bone in his face. After falling into a coma doctors announced that his prognosis was poor. Stupak eventually woke up and went on to make a full recovery.
Stupak was later to become widely known to the poker world following appearances on High Stakes Poker and The World Poker Tour but his poker resume contains a list of some impressive tournament results. He has over $865,000 in career tournament winnings, most of which came from money finishes in the toughest events the WSOP and WPT had to offer.
A city which made Bob Stupak, often referred to as Mr Las Vegas, a very wealthy man is today a lot poorer without him.
