Ladies Champ Sues WSOP Academy
The 2007 WSOP Ladies champion, Sally Ann Boyer, is to sue the World Series of Poker Academy on the grounds that they used her name and image without her permission in their ads.
Boyer picked up $262,077 alongside a WSOP bracelet and watch following her win in June 2007. She claims the ads state she won the event thanks to her training at the school although Boyer isn’t a graduate.
Her complaint in Clark County Court read; “Soon thereafter, the WSOP Academy began extensive marketing efforts, using Boyer’s recent win to widely market itself as an academy that breeds success in tournaments.”
Poker Game Robbed of $11,000 by Armed Men
Two men, armed with assault rifles and pepper spray, robbed a poker game in Cleveland on Monday night and got away with $11,000 in cash. The thieves forced the seven poker playing men to undress before spraying them with pepper spray and making off with the money.
Robberies at poker games appear to be on the increase following several reported raids on games around the world in 2009. Less legal poker games are sure to have been targetted too as players are less likely to report such crimes, fearing prosecution themselves.
Dan Livingston wins WSOPC Chicago
Dan Livingston, a 22 year old part-time poker player, was down on his luck when he entered a freeroll for the World Series of Poker Circuit event in Chicago. Livingston was out of work and struggling to make ends meet but the ‘Poker Gods’ have just given the youngster a huge boost after he won the title and WSOPC gold ring. Livingston picked up the first place prize of $291,749 after beating a tough looking field.
“40 hours of work for nearly $300,000? I’ll take it!” beamed Livingston. He went on; “I have always wanted to win a gold bracelet, but I must say that the gold ring will do for now.”
