EPT Deauville: Jake Cody Wins!
In a final jam-packed full of “action” hands, the EPT Deauville concluded last night with Britain’s Jake Cody taking the first tour crown of 2010. Cody had a very solid main event but during the final table he simply could not miss the big hands and he must have been in dreamland when each big hand was paid off.
That’s not to say Cody didn’t play well, of course he did. You need a lot of talent to win an EPT event and Cody clearly has that in abundance. When faced with a former WSOP champion you need a lot of courage as well. Even if Peter Eastgate was short stacked and was the first to be eliminated.
Hold’em Manager Now Supports Rush Poker
Full Tilt Poker’s Rush Poker has taken the poker industry by storm in the past week. The ability to fold quickly and then be moved to another table to instantly play a new hand has attracted players in their thousands to FTP.
Instead of playing around 80 hands an hour some players are reporting 250 – 300 hands being banked. That amount of action can’t be ignored and now tracking software company “Hold’em Manager” have launched a new version of their popular software to cater for the new games on Rush Poker.
The traditional Hold’em Manager HUD won’t work with Rush Poker so some tweaks have been made to the latest version.
David Benyamine Joins the Las Vegas Premier League Party
The big names just keep on coming in regards to the next Party Poker Premier League. Perhaps the lure of Las Vegas is attracting some but surely the $1.5 million prize pool is pricking up the ears of all the “big hitters”.
Today, David Benyamine and been revealed as the next player to join the Premier League IV. Benyamine Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, Phil Hellmuth, JC Tran, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Roland de Wolfe, Luke Schwartz and, as we announced last week, Tony G.
Each player (12 in total) is putting up $100,000 to buy in and Party Poker are adding $300,000 to the prize pool.
Phil Ivey Tops All Time Money List
It’s been an interesting start to 2010 for Phil Ivey. The “Tiger Woods of poker” had his own marital problems in late 2009 which resulted in a divorce from his wife but, if the the single life is anything to judge by, keep away ladies! because Ivey appears to be in better form than ever before.
Yesterday, Ivey claimed 2nd place in the $100,000 buy-in challenge event at the Aussie Millions, a result which was good enough to move him into top spot on the all time money list. Ivey sat just a few hundred thousand dollars behind Daniel Negreanu before the weekend started. His 2nd place in Melbourne earned him $544,219 – enough to move him ahead.
EPT Deauville: Eastgate Finals as Teodor Caraba Leads the Pack
The European Poker Tour (EPT) in Deauville has reached the final stages and later today eight players will take their seats, in France, in the hunt for the first EPT crown of 2010.
One stand out name in the final eight is former WSOP champion Peter Eastgate. Eastgate had a superb Day 3 and 4 and, despite his short stack, must be considered a danger to chip leader, Teodor Caraba, with his vast experience of big money poker tournaments.
One player who will be kicking himself today is final table “bubble boy” Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier. ElkY finished in 9th place after another consistent display of poker. His €51,500 prize will go some way to ease his bubble pains, though.
EPT Deauville: Ludovic Lacay in Charge after Day 1b
Day 1b at the EPT in Deauville ended late last night with Ludovic Lacay topping the chip counts. A host of well known players are hot on Lacay’s heels, though, including former WSOP champion Peter Eastgate, Luca Pagano and serial EPT casher Dario Minieri.
Unless you prefer playing against some of the top names in world poker then Day 1b was a day to avoid in Deauville. The stars came out to play yesterday and a good number of them survived to reach Day 2 (starting at noon local time today). ‘ElkY’ is still in the mix along with Greg Raymer, Rob Hollink and Juha Helppi.
Tony G Joins Team Party Poker
Party Poker appear to be on a “big name” recruitment drive right now. Following the addition of Kara Scott to Team Party Poker, the online poker giants have now signed up Aussie bad boy Tony G to their ranks.
Tony G, real name Antanas Guoga, joins Team Party Poker effective immediately as a site spokesman. Guoga’s own online poker room, Tony G Poker, has been snapped up by Party Gaming PLC as part of the deal. Players at Tony G Poker will be moved across to the Noble Poker platform which is also owned by Party Gaming.
Jeff “ActionJeff” Garza in Spitting Storm
The recent PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) was a great success but news from a $5,000 side event has left a sour taste in the mouth, or face in the case of online pro’ Bryn Kenney. Kenney was seated in the tournament when he caught the eye of the recently eliminated Jeff Garza, aka ActionJeff, as he headed out of the poker area. What followed next has added fuel to the fire of the war of words between the two players and could leave Garza in hot water.
Reports from players at the table and near by suggest Garza spat in the face of Kenney before hurridly leaving the card room. Garza made his way to the popular online forum at PocketFives to confirm the incident.
