Cake Poker Loser WINS the Pot
Perhaps the old saying; “You can’t have your cake and eat it” isn’t completely true when it comes to playing online at Cake Poker. Poker forums burst into life late yesterday when news of a losing hand being awarded a pot hit the wires.
The action took place on a 2c/4c NLHE table. Two players got their money into the middle before the flop with
vs
. A board of

fell giving a nut flush for the Ace holder. Strangely though the pot of $5.72 pot was awarded to the K high flush player!
The glitch sparked dozens of posts on poker forums such as 2+2 but to Cake Poker’s credit they were quick to address the problem. Poker manager Lee Jones said:
“Unfortunately, at the moment, this appears to be real. What’s bizarre is how it happened this one time out of the tens of millions of hands we’ve dealt. Needless to say, our software people have dropped everything else to track this down. I’ll update you as soon as we understand what happened.”
Cake Poker them suspended play and brought down their servers for around 30 minutes before returning to normal operations. Jones concluded:
“If there is some clear conclusion about the cause of the perfect storm, then yes, we’ll provide some explanation of it. We might not take it down to the technical level, mostly because to explain the entire set of circumstances would probably take three pages, be Greek to 99.99% of the readers, and only result in a bunch of “tl;dr” responses. But if there is some kind of further information that’s relevant and useful to this community, I assure you that we’ll share it.”
The Cake Poker players in question could soon be in-line for an unusual award stemming from the glitch. Any Cake players who can support a mis-awarded pot claim with a hand history are eligible for a $500 reward. Something a micro-limits player may welcome but what of the high stakes players?
