Bernard Lee Signs with Foxwoods in Unique Deal
The stories of poker players gaining sponsorship with major, and some minor, online poker rooms are common place around the web. Some are sponsored on their playing merits, others have a more promotional role to play when it comes to wearing the company logo at the tables.
Bernard Lee, a man compared to the legend that is Mike Sexton, has landed himself a rather different type of sponsorship though. Lee is to become the first sponsored player by a major casino after being signed up by Foxwoods. The deal could pave the way for similar style sponsorships in future in a market that has been traditionally dominated by online poker companies.
Examiner.com said of the deal: “Lee’s tremendous personality, history with both print, radio, and television media, powerful insights into the game, and unbelievable work ethic –he has to be the hardest working man in poker—give Foxwoods one of the best ambassadors in the game of poker. Lee will wear the Foxwoods logo in tournaments he plays as well being a spokesman for the casino. He will also continue working on other projects including working for ESPN and the Boston Herald.”
Lee has earned over $1.3 million in tournament cashes and went as deep as 13th in the WSOP main back in 2005.
