andrew-pantling A relatively low turn out of just 200 players took their seats for Day 1a of the European Poker Tour in Copenhagen, Norway yesterday. The PokerStars sponsored event was scandinavian player laden as you might expect, but it was Canadian player Andrew Pantling that headed the pack as play stopped for the day late last night.

Pantling, from Ontario, might not be the most familiar poker player around but he has plenty of big tournament experience, including a 3rd place in the 2009 Irish Poker Open which netted him a pay day of over €200,000.

Pantling will be sitting comfortably when Day 2 starts tomorrow but he has lots of work to do just yet if he is to go deep here in Norway. Johnny Ostbjerg, Christian Togsverd and Patrik Kaltrud are all hot on his heels and players from Day 1b (which started earlier today) are likely to challenge him for the chip lead before Day 2 gets underway.

Here are the top 10 players and their chip counts from Day 1a:

1. Andrew Pantling – 155800
2. Johnny Ostbjerg – 117100
3. Christian Togsverd – 116100
4. Patrik Kaltrud – 113200
5. Kristian Kofoed – 110500
6. Haykel Vidal – 105500
7. Morten Guldhammer – 101500
8. Bahram Beleiverdi – 94000
9. Ronnie Gasseholm – 92300
10. Mark Bech – 92100

We’ll have the news from Day 1b in Copenhagen here at Poker News Headlines tomorrow.
