All EPT Berlin Suspects Now Under Arrest
German police announced late last night that the two suspects still at large for the EPT Berlin robbery have been arrested. Authorities arrested two men at Berlin’s Tegel airport after they returned from abroad.
The first suspect, a 20-year-old man, gave himself up to police after arriving from Istanbul just before noon on Saturday. The other man, a 19 year old, returned from Beirut and was immediately detained.
A German police spokesman told German newspaper Bild am Sonntag that the arrests signified a “great success for the prosecution and investigators.” despite the location of the €242,000 stolen during the high-stakes poker game remaining unclear.
The newspaper also reported that an Arab family, known to the police, masterminded the crime that shocked the poker world. It’s also been alleged that two members of the family reportedly stayed at the Grand Hyatt hotel shortly before the heist and were recorded on surveillance footage.
The final arrests signify what should be the end to a fast paced investigation. Much to the relief of German authorities and European Poker Tour officials.
