It’s been an interesting start to 2010 for Phil Ivey. The “Tiger Woods of poker” had his own marital problems in late 2009 which resulted in a divorce from his wife but, if the the single life is anything to judge by, keep away ladies! because Ivey appears to be in better form than ever before.
Yesterday, Ivey claimed 2nd place in the $100,000 buy-in challenge event at the Aussie Millions, a result which was good enough to move him into top spot on the all time money list. Ivey sat just a few hundred thousand dollars behind Daniel Negreanu before the weekend started. His 2nd place in Melbourne earned him $544,219 – enough to move him ahead.

The world of poker was in shock last weekend as news filtered through of the death of Amir Vahedi. Vahedi passed away on January 8th from complications with his diabetes.
Amir was a much loved member of the poker community and a larger than life character. It’s rare that any single player attracts anything but good comments from his or her fellow pro’s but the cigar chomping Vahedi fell into that category.
Vahedi was perhaps most famous for his sixth place finish in the 2003 WSOP. His aggressive game and likeable nature made him one of the first TV poker stars at a time when poker was about to experience a huge boom in popularity.

Sexton became a household name due to his poker commentary on shows such as The World Poker Tour, but the 62 year old pro’ has a string of poker tournament successes to his name too. He has over $2.7 million in tournament winnings, the biggest of which was a $1 million win against Daniel Negreanu at the WSOP Tournament of Champions event in 2006.

Jennifer Harman, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and Scotty Nguyen have shocked the poker world by appearing in the latest issue of ESPN’s “The Magazine – Body Issue” in the nude! The four pro’s have made their living by concealing as much as they can at the poker tables over the years but all have revealed rather a lot of themselves in the latest publication.
Although there is certainly a lot of flesh on display, the Disney owned magazine was careful to avoid shocking their readers too much! The sight of Phil Hellmuth’s breasts (pictured) are certain to attract a barrage of comments and ridicule on Internet forums though.

After a gruelling 17 hour final table at the WSOPE main event it was Barry Shulman that emerged as the winner for £801,603 and the coveted WSOPE bracelet.
Shulman took on Daniel Negreanu in the heads up stags of the tournament and managed to turn a chip deficit into a chip lead before eliminating Negreanu with his over-pair of Tens vs Fours.
Shulman’s last WSOP glory came back in 2001 when he won the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Split Eight or Better tournament. However, the WSOPE bracelet is by far the biggest win for the CEO of Card Player magazine.

Betfair Poker’s Caesar’s Cup teams are already beginning to take shape with a month to go before the two sides do battle in London. The Caesar’s Cup is modelled on golf’s Ryder Cup and looks set to be one of the most fascinating, high profile, poker events of the year in Europe.
Captaining the Americas team is Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu, yesterday, announced a few of his team selections. They include Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey and John Juanda in what is almost certain to be a team of all-stars.
