The ‘poker brat’ is on the verge of yet another big cash result and, maybe, another title. Phil Hellmuth is sitting pretty, second in chips, in the Bay 101 Shooting Star event. Hellmuth is a whisker behind chip leader Andy Seth after leading for the majority of the first three days.
Seth has been in hot form during the final stages of play. The chip leader has already sent Lou Diamond and Scotty Nguyen to the rail and is in confident mood as the remaining six players take to their seats today.
Seth told the WPT; “I’m going to keep trying to do what I’ve been doing.

The GUKPT headed to Walsall last weekend with 207 players finding the £1,000 buy-in for their seats. In a notably tough field, it was Belfast born player Colin McTaggart that took the honours. Colin faced 7 former GUKPT champions with only 23 players remaining but managed to steamroll his opponents on the way to a memorable victory.
A £57,700 first prize, the trophy and a seat in the £150,000 Champion of Champions tournament were McTaggart’s rewards alongside the satisfaction of beating some of the toughest players the UK has to offer.

24 year old poker pro’, Jeff Madsen, has won the main event of the 2010 Borgata Winter Poker Open. Madsen, from Las Vegas, added the Borgata title to his already impressive poker C.V. earlier this month bringing his lifetime tournament earnings to over $3.1 million.
Although the Borgata Open is no longer a WPT event, the $3,300 main event still attracts some of the biggest names in US poker. 766 players stumped up the buy-in to build a total prize pool over close to $2.5 million. It was Madsen who took control of the event at an early stage, though, and he never looked back from there.

In a final jam-packed full of “action” hands, the EPT Deauville concluded last night with Britain’s Jake Cody taking the first tour crown of 2010. Cody had a very solid main event but during the final table he simply could not miss the big hands and he must have been in dreamland when each big hand was paid off.
That’s not to say Cody didn’t play well, of course he did. You need a lot of talent to win an EPT event and Cody clearly has that in abundance. When faced with a former WSOP champion you need a lot of courage as well. Even if Peter Eastgate was short stacked and was the first to be eliminated.

The European Poker Tour (EPT) in Deauville has reached the final stages and later today eight players will take their seats, in France, in the hunt for the first EPT crown of 2010.
One stand out name in the final eight is former WSOP champion Peter Eastgate. Eastgate had a superb Day 3 and 4 and, despite his short stack, must be considered a danger to chip leader, Teodor Caraba, with his vast experience of big money poker tournaments.
One player who will be kicking himself today is final table “bubble boy” Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier. ElkY finished in 9th place after another consistent display of poker. His €51,500 prize will go some way to ease his bubble pains, though.

Day 1b at the EPT in Deauville ended late last night with Ludovic Lacay topping the chip counts. A host of well known players are hot on Lacay’s heels, though, including former WSOP champion Peter Eastgate, Luca Pagano and serial EPT casher Dario Minieri.
Unless you prefer playing against some of the top names in world poker then Day 1b was a day to avoid in Deauville. The stars came out to play yesterday and a good number of them survived to reach Day 2 (starting at noon local time today). ‘ElkY’ is still in the mix along with Greg Raymer, Rob Hollink and Juha Helppi.
