High Stakes Tables Slow as Isildur1 Drops Down

Paul Sandells
Monday 17th May 2010

4-aces-mouse It’s that time of the year again. The WSOP is almost upon us and unless you’ve already claimed your seat online then time is running out to bag your place in “the big dance”.

The WSOP, it seems, often has a knock-on effect of slowing down the action at the nose bleed stakes online. While players are busy preparing their travel, accommodation and playing one of the many online satellite qualifiers the high stakes tables see less action.

In the last week, players have struggled to notch up any significant profits. Only Phil Ivey has posted a chunky positive by adding $580k to his bankroll.

Patrik Antonius Back in Profit for 2010

Mike Stephens
Wednesday 5th May 2010

patrik_antonius 2010 has been a rough year for pretty boy poker player, Patrik Antonius. The Finnish high stakes star has struggled up until lately and his profit/loss column was showing a worrying $3.6 million downswing not so long ago.

Things are looking a lot bright for Antonius today, though. After a red hot run of form in April he has turned his loss around into an $86,000 profit for the year so far. It took thr Finn just over 27,000 hands to turn things around. A remarkable achievement even for the high stakes played at over on Full Tilt Poker – Antonius’ online home.

Durrrr Rubishes Townsend Challenge Rumours

Paul Sandells
Friday 30th April 2010

durrrr The Durrrr Challenge has been running for some time now and, so far, the only challenger to Tom ‘Durrrr’ Dwan has been Patrik Antonius. Dwan and Antonius have been slowly but surely working their way through the challenge and rumours have been circulating that Brian Townsend will be the next to take on the high stakes poker genius.

Bluff Magazine ran a story which stated; “Dwan says his goal for the match against Townsend – the starting day for which is still being worked out, while parameters such as buy-ins, number of hands, choice of games, etc. are staying the same – is simple: Make the action fast, exciting, and get the buzz going once again about the Durrrr Challenge.”

Tom Dwan Continues to Crush Full Tilt’s High Stakes Tables

Karl Haddon
Monday 12th April 2010

tom-dwan Whilst the chat over the weekend surrounded Isildur1 and his rejection of the PartyPoker Big Game IV televised cash game, Tom Dwan quietly got on with the business of relieving most of his high stakes opponents of their money.

Durrrr is simply on fire right now. His start to 2010 has been nothing short of sensational on Full Tilt Poker. In the last week alone, Dwan booked in a little over 11,500 hands for a monster $1.6 million profit. That takes his numbers for 2010 to an eye watering $5.6 million profit. At this rate, Dwan could easily break the $20 million profit barrier and, recently, there isn’t really anybody else in touching distance of him.

NAPT Mohegan Attracts Big Field

Lucy Speed
Thursday 8th April 2010

napt-mohegan A large field of top class poker players made their way over to Connecticut for the NAPT main event Day 1 yesterday. 716 players registered for the Mohegan Sun event, producing a very chunky prize pool.

The lower buy-ins and PokerStars qualifiers appear to have worked wonders in attracting the bumper field to the $5,000 buy-in main event.

$750,000 is awaitng the winner of this event and a big name leads the pack in the early stages. David Williams is sitting pretty at the top of the chip counts with Brandon Cantu, Gavin Graffin and James Akenhead all well positioned at this stage.

Karl Haddon
Sunday 28th March 2010

high-stakes-poker As any poker player; “what is the most popular poker tv show right now?” and the majority will respond with three words “High Stakes Poker”. Isildur1 Loses Almost $2 Million in Marathon Session

Mike Stephens
Sunday 14th March 2010

full_tilt_logo_600_450 Online poker sensation, Isildur1, has been rather quiet of late. The anonymous Swedish player is seemingly back on the high stakes scene with a bang now, though. Following an impressive $2 million upswing last week, the Swede is right back where he started today after dropping $1.8 million in a 9000+ hand session.

The session started well for Isildur1. He took a seat against Cole South in a $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha game on Full Tilt Poker. After dropping just over $300k in the early exchanges he battled back to finish up a healthy $557k with a little under 1000 in the books.

Dwan and Ivey’s Vegetarian Prop Bet

Mike Stephens
Tuesday 9th March 2010

hamburger Poker has had it’s fair share of crazy prop’ bets down the years. Everything, from racing a racehorse to growing facial hear, has been on the agenda for some of the more fun-loving poker players. The latest prop’ bet is certainly a new one on us here at Poker News Headlines.

The bet in question came up on the latest edition of High Stakes Poker. Tom Dwan suggested to meat loving Phil Ivey that if he didn’t eat any meat (including fish) for the next year then he would pay him $1 million.
