The ‘poker brat’ is on the verge of yet another big cash result and, maybe, another title. Phil Hellmuth is sitting pretty, second in chips, in the Bay 101 Shooting Star event. Hellmuth is a whisker behind chip leader Andy Seth after leading for the majority of the first three days.
Seth has been in hot form during the final stages of play. The chip leader has already sent Lou Diamond and Scotty Nguyen to the rail and is in confident mood as the remaining six players take to their seats today.
Seth told the WPT; “I’m going to keep trying to do what I’ve been doing.

The robbery of the European Poker Tour in Berlin shook the poker world earlier this week and, we we go to press today, German police have announced they have no suspects or leads over the raid as yet.
The “Oceans 11″ style heist saw players and casino staff flee in fear of their lives as armed gunmen stormed the Hyatt hotel in Berlin. It was originally reported that the thieves got away with €1 million but subsequent reports are indicating the figure was a few hundred thousand Euros.

Golf pro’ and serial cheater, Tiger Woods, has rejected a sponsorship deal from Irish gaming giants Paddy Power. Paddy Power, parent company of one of the most popular online Irish poker rooms, is reported to have tabled a $75 million package to Woods.
Woods, under fire after allegations about his private life came to light, has suffered financially after several of his mainstream sponsors pulled out of their deals. But, despite that, Tiger wasn’t keen to accept the huge deal on offer from the Irish bookmaking giants.
Paddy Power are well known for their publicity stunts but it’s thought that the deal WAS a serious offer and the company are set to talk to Tiger’s agents again soon.

Poker has had it’s fair share of crazy prop’ bets down the years. Everything, from racing a racehorse to growing facial hear, has been on the agenda for some of the more fun-loving poker players. The latest prop’ bet is certainly a new one on us here at Poker News Headlines.
The bet in question came up on the latest edition of High Stakes Poker. Tom Dwan suggested to meat loving Phil Ivey that if he didn’t eat any meat (including fish) for the next year then he would pay him $1 million.

The new Berlin leg of the European Poker Tour was hit by armed robbers last weekend. Six men, armed with machine guns and a machete, entered the Berlin Grand Hyatt where the tournament was taking place and made off with €1 million in the dramatic heist.
All EPT events are filmed for TV and the Berlin leg was no exception. We have obtained video footage of the moment the actual robbery took place, causing poker players and hotel staff members to flee for their lives.

PartyGaming PLC, the company behind Party Poker, have announced a net loss of $26.5 million for 2009. Despite the apparently poor figures, the group remains positive about their future.
PartyGaming CEO, Jim Ryan, was quick to put a positive outlook on the results. He said; “Whilst the macroeconomic environment remains uncertain, we remain focused on executing our stated strategy and are confident about the Group’s prospects.”
Company revenues were down 6% from 2008 to $446.2 million in a turbulent year for the business. In the previous year PartyGaming posted a profit of $66.9 million.

A charity gambling casino in Fort Wayne, Indiana was shut down yesterday after operators were accused of unlawful charity gaming contracting, corrupt business influence, theft and professional gambling.
The Parnell Poker Palace has been under investigation for the last year by the Indiana Gaming Commission. The commission gathered enough evidence to bring their case against property owner George Kotsopoulos, his business partner Edward R. Miers and the three men accussed of operating the non-profit organization, Ralph T. White, Larry L. York and Charles I. Keller.
The Parnell Poker Palace relied on blackjack, poker, dice games and roulette to raise money for non-profit White’s School of the Arts Community Development Programs.
